Literature Text

The more normal creatures of Tebrate are wild goats, rabbit, squirrels, and deer, lemurs, seals, song birds, pigeons and pheasants.  As easy to imagine the regular animals took a hit when the 'new' creatures were moved in and the eco system is rather changed from a few hundred years back.  Even the normal deer are to be avoided if they look a little 'different'.

Most creatures are the result of scientist/enchanters altering creatures for varied reasons.  Most are obviously for weapon or testing purposes.  Such as Beast and his Brother Lachlan (who are actually more intelligent than animals and thus showing even less regard for life)  Some creatures were altered as a show of power.  Some are actually natural just not from Tebrates world and were 'poached' and started to breed on the island.

During it's time as an experimental paradise not all the scientist/enchanters were trying to make trouble.  Some actually wanted to prove that they could use powers for good.  There experiments involved altering animals for good.  A super domestication as it were.  They took livestock and looked at what people always tried to selectively breed and tried to improve it.

Tebrate Rats

002 by 1tiptip1

Environmental nightmare at it's worst.  These creatures were created by Tailath's cult in order to win an unchallenged bet with some of the more benign inventors on Tebrate.  While others wanted to make creatures who could sustain resources or could be harnessed as weapons some were rather . . . let's just say immature.  These rodent/lizards are as invasive and destructive as any pest rodent.  Adults range form 5 to 15 inches in the body, still growing for three years after they reach maturity.  They have a very long tail of similar or longer length that gets stockier as the creature gets bigger.  They can breed and lay eggs every month nearly after they are mature at two months old.  There breeding slows in colder months and they go into a semi hibernative state until warmer weather.  The larger the female the more eggs for batches of 20 to 120.  The resilient eggs hatch in 8 weeks unless too cold (60 degrees or less), in which they go dormant for long periods.  The young are born as active tiny versions of the adults.
They are resistant to poison and eat nearly anything and if they don't have enough food or weather gets to cold they just wait it out in a hibernative stupor.  There eggs can do the same for many, many years.  They live up to fifteen years though they actually shut down there metabolism enough to last longer if they hibernate.  The only control is to actually hunt them.  The only good thing is they are edible and Tebrate has a very large over population of predators to keep them in normal numbers.

Allehome's Sheep

A much more benign creature these sheep were bred by Allehome (who's abandoned keep Teril uses as a base now).  They were bred with agriculture in mind.  These are very nice, sweet creatures.  Most creatures like them didn't survive long once Tebrate went 'feral' but these none the less have enough instinct to avoid extinction at the hands of predators. They are rather thin and wiry (not bred for meat) under the wool and move quickly when chased.  They are resilent and can forage on nearly any plant life.  Unlike most high wool yielding sheep they will shed yearly if not sheered.  The downside is they come in all kinds of bright, unnatural colors and tend to need to stay near cover to survive.  Allehome had hoped to breed a creature of superb wool quality with already colored hues that could survive in poor grazing and, if needed, shed there wool naturally for collection.  A noble gesture that never got off the island.  Herds of these creatures are tamed by the 'Forest Ghost' tribes who gather the wool in the spring.

Jumpers and Hoofed hares

This kangroo and hare are actually rumored to be poached from summoned creatures who brought them from there world.  They behave a lot like normal counterparts except the hares don't burrow and the male Jumpers will use there horns in a brawl.

Boars

These boars are supposable altered in order to give more sport for hunters during charity hunts.  A contest was made to see who could make a better creature for the challenge.  One is better armed and horrible mean.  The other is a cross of boar and bovine with better meat, but still mean.  They breed just as much as a feral hog and grow to enormous size.  They are hunted for meat and skin by the tougher inhabitants but are considered very dangerous.  They can grow bigger than any Bull and some are even the size of a rhino.
